His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Hicham is the grandson of the late King Mohammed V, the father of the modern, independent nation of Morocco. Prince Moulay Hicham is the son of the late Prince Moulay Abdallah, Mohammed V's younger son, the nephew of his late Majesty Hassan II, and the cousin of Mohammed VI, the present King of Morocco.
Prince Moulay Hicham, 42 grew up in Rabat, the capital of Morocco. He attended the American High School in Rabat, was graduated from Princeton University, and did his graduate work at Stanford University.
At Princeton University, Prince Moulay Hicham has endowed the Institute for the Transregional Study of the Contemporary Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, an important venue for confronting the issues of peace, prosperity, democracy, and stability in the Middle East, and in all Arab and Islamic regions of the world.
Prince Moulay Hicham lectures frequently on political and social issues at universities, conferences and intellectual centers. He has written on contemporary political and economic issues for periodicals in Morocco, France and the Arab world, including Politique Internationale, Le Monde, Le Monde diplomatique. Al-Quds, and Al-Hayat.. He has also pursued independent initiatives around global humanitarian and social issues. In 1995, he assisted Ambassador Juan Somavia in preparing support activities for the World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen. In 2000, he served as Principal Officer for Community Affairs with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. He was also an international observer with the Carter Center delegations during elections in Nigeria in 1999, and in Palestine in 1996 and 2006.
Prince Moulay Hicham is also an investor and entrepreneur in developing renewable energy sources, which seek to meet the challenges of finding new sources of affordable energy, in an environmentally friendly way. In cooperation with like-minded groups, he has a number of projects operating and in development at sites in Asia and the Middle East.
